Brad Jones Needs Surgery. Seriously.

Regarding LB Brad Jones, the wording from head coach Mike McCarthy was "a significant shoulder injury" that "will require surgery at some point." McCarthy made the information public at wednesday's press conference. You can watch that here. Jones is coming off his best game of the season, which included the sack that may have broken Vikings QB Brett Favre's ankle. While McCarthy pleaded the 5th as to a timetable for Jones, the latest information indicates that he has been placed on injured reserve. He joins DE Mike Neal who sustained a shoulder injury against the Redskins.

Yesterday, I highlighted some of the Packers acquisitions this week given the cascade of injuries. I mentioned that more transactions were likely. Well, here they are in no particular order.

The Packers have signed Louisiana State alum NT Howard Green, answering questions of reinforcements for the defensive line. Green is 6"2", 340 lbs, and has been in the league since 2002 when he was drafted by Houston. Since then he's bounced around, playing with Baltimore, New Orleans, Seattle, and the New York Jets respectively.

LB Erik Walden joins the ranks of 3 total linebackers brought in this week to help the depleted fleet. Walden was drafted in the 6th round of the 2008 draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He is 6'2", 250 lbs and attended Middle Tennessee State.

A Final Word

Criticize the Packers all you want for blowing close games. The fact is, relative to the beginning of the season, I can count the remaining impact starters on one hand, yet they continue to battle. They're 4-3 and all three losses have been close, hard-fought games. The NFC is wide open and frankly, knowing what we know now, I'll take a banged up Green Bay over any team in the NFC North division.
