Daily D'oh! Award

Today's recipient: Albert Haynesworth

The Washington Redskins have suspended estranged defenseman Albert Haynesworth without pay for the remainder of the season, citing general insubordination and "conduct detrimental to the club." His time in the nation's capital is likely over.

Some History: Haynesworth signed a free agent contract worth over $100 million before the start of the 2009 season. This past offseason, the Redskins hired head coach Mike Shanahan, who brought with him a 3-4 defense. Having cut his teeth in the more traditional 4-3 scheme, Haynesworth has been overly vocal about his unwillingness to change. Albert refused to show up for OTA's, minicamp, and other offseason programs, and when he did appear just before preseason, he was unable to pass the basic condition test. That test involves essentially jogging to a cone with a time limit. After much more head-butting, and a season of acting out, the Washington brass has seen enough.

A bit of editorializing here, but shame on Albert Haynesworth. Shame on a grown man who gets paid millions of dollars to play a child's ballgame and still somehow can't show up for work. Shame on a seemingly bright, well spoken athlete intentionally dogging it while the rest of his team gives it their all. Albert Haynesworth, congratulations on winning today's "Daily D'oh! Award." Congratulations on being a straight-up punk.
