The Packers announced today the release of kicker Giorgio Tavecchio. For the official announcement, click here: http://pckrs.com/s73p
The writing was on the wall for Tavecchio when the team followed Friday's preseason game versus the Seahawks by signing yet another kicker, rookie Zach Ramirez. Ramirez will now compete with Mason Crosby, the struggling incumbent.
Just when I was getting ready to bust out the Peroni (Italian beer), GB gave Giorgio the Italian ice. I don't mind the decision because I checked out the video of Ramirez. Add that to the great things I've heard about him tells me this kid has great potential. He could even end up in the record books some day. I am excited to see his leg in our pre-season finally!

ReplyDeleteI believe a young, undrafted Ryan Longwell beat out a drafted kicker once upon a time.
ReplyDeleteLet me amend. Ramirez goes 6-16 in practice today while Crosby was perfect. Ouch
ReplyDeleteThe "Crosby Cup" prevails!
