Datone Jones Sits Out With Mild Sprain

Datone Jones was selected
by GB at #26 overall

In a training camp full of nicks, bumps, and bruises, it was with bated breath that the Packers awaited further information on the injury to first round draft pick Datone Jones. The relief was palpable in the media room when coach Mike McCarthy today clarified that Jones will "miss a couple days this week." He seemed genuinely unconcerned that the injury may linger. Jones will likely be held out for the next preseason game against St. Louis, and it would seem the team will be extremely cautious with him until the season starts. Caution may outweigh practice reps for a rookie who has looked every bit the pass rusher the team hoped they nabbed on draft day.

  1. I read your response to my question on your August 10th blog. So I'm assuming since you talked about depth, and having the next guy ready to step up; based on our camp and 1st pre-season game we don't really look good enough to be a Super Bowl contender? Because you and I both know by that time in the season we will be beat up. And since pre-season is for our "depth" is it safe to say we can't pull it off unless we show mega improvement in the rest of pre-season?

  2. I've heard others questioning depth as well. I'd say I'm concerned right now, but I also recognize what day of the year it is. The season has not yet started and I think it's fair to hold off on those judgments right now. Since your comment, we've seen another preseason contest against the Rams. Feel any better after that game? To a certain extent, I know I do.

  3. I know a lot of people were worried after that first "game". I knew we were much better than that, but I was concerned about our back-ups. After seeing the "game" against the Rams I am much more confident in our defense.
