First Daily Dope Sheet "Daily D'oh! Award"

Sometimes athletes make poor decisions. I'd be remiss in running a blog whose title contains the word "dope" if I didn't occasionally step back and honor a real "dope" in the sports realm. I hope to make this a recurring segment, and what with all the dopey things professional athletes tend to do, I don't think that will be very hard. Please put your hands together for the first ever....

DAILY DOPE SHEET
DAILY D'OH!
AWARD WINNER

You guessed it. WR Braylon Edwards of the New York Jets.

This past Monday night (actually it was around 5am Tuesday morning, but I digress), Braylon Edwards was pulled over by Manhattan police while attempting to drive home from a bar. Police say they pulled him over for having excessively tinted windows. Yes, that's a crime in NYC. While questioning Edwards, police smelled alcohol which prompted them to perform a breathalyzer test. He reportedly blew twice the legal limit. This from a player who is supposed to be cleaning up his act after leaving his sordid past in Cleveland for a fresh start with the Jets. What's worse is, as ESPN's Mike Golic reported, there is a safety net provided to players to avoid this very problem. Apparently, NFL teams offer a free no-questions-asked car service which is on call 24/7. Drivers are usually former police officers who are licensed to carry heat, and the cars themselves are usually large, lavish luxury vehicles complete with every feature a 16 year old boy trapped in a freakishly giant man's body might need to entertain themselves during a drunken ride home. Again, this service is free to all players and is no-questions-asked. Having this information certainly sheds new, idiot-colored light on this situation, as well as every other incident like this from the past 10 years. Seriously, what was he thinking? Clearly he was not thinking, and that's why I'm happy to present Braylon Edwards with the latest Daily D'oh! Award. Congrats!

Side Note: An 'A' for effort to the runner-up for this award. This past Sunday in Indianapolis, New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs angrily attempted to throw his helmet at a wall, only to have it slip from his hands and go bowling into the stands. The helmet sailed about 10 rows deep and directly into a group of suddenly less enthusiastic Colts fans. One fan attempted to keep the helmet, clutching it in his lap as the security staff tried to retrieve it. The helmet was eventually wrestled away by a sheriff and returned to Jacobs, who looked visibly upset by the incident. At least Johnny Law was on his side, for whatever reason. What a goober. The Colts would go on to disembowel the Giants to the tune of 38-14. Perfect.
