Team Reverses Decision On Super Bowl Photo

After much consternation and subsequent backlash, the Packers brass have reversed their initial decision to exclude players on injured reserve from the team's Super Bowl photograph. All 15 players on IR will now be in the picture. As to why the the original decision to exclude those players was made, a team spokesman offered the following statement,

"It was a team decision driven by the sheer number of players on IR. Our primary focus is to get the team ready to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. Every decision we make is about trying to win a world championship."

A bit of editorializing here, but that sounds like a lot of verbal bologna. Evidently, I'm not alone in that sentiment. Numerous injured players spoke up via twitter, voicing their disappointment. They had every right to be disappointed. To think that a player could put his body on the line, sustain a serious injury, and somehow be erased from the team anals, is like something out of the Stalinist playbook. It's not simply a poor decision made worse by poor P.R., but it certainly doesn't do much to build team loyalty and unity.

But all's well that ends well, and injured players like Mark Tauscher and Nick Barnett will be honored for their contributions. Those two players alone account for a combined 19 years of service to the organization.
